Fifteen men were arrested between Thursday and Friday in Northport and face charges of soliciting prostitution after an undercover operation by the West Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force. One of those arrested was former University of Alabama vice president for student life Myron Pope, which WVUA 23 first reported on Friday.

The objective of the operation focused on the suppression of commercial sex buyers.

“If buyers weren’t looking for commercial sex, sex trafficking would no longer be profitable,” said Cpt. Phil Simpson, commander of the West Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force. “We hope that these transactions targeting buyers show that we take this very seriously. Our goal is to prevent the future exploitation of victims of human trafficking who are forced or coerced into prostitution.
