One SIS, seven nations: SIS users worldwide discuss how the Scale was translated and adapted to fit native contexts

The Supports Intensity Scale assessment has been translated into 10 languages and the Scale is in use in 9 countries. A series of White Papers on SIS recently published by AAIDD highlight the work done by experts in several countries on translating the Scale and adapting it to the cultural context. For example, in Taiwan, community living and lifelong learning activities included in SIS are not very applicable, since, “At present, most people with intellectual and developmental disabilities either stay at home or are placed in institutions,” explains Sue Holmes, Chairperson for the Taiwan Community Living Consortium. “International Implementation of the Supports Intensity Scale” is an insightful read for anyone considering use of the Scale outside of the United States.
