What you get
-In this intensive and interactive 3-day workshop, you will acquire a functional understanding of SIS and its role in providing a reliable framework to quantify the support needs of people with intellectual disabilities and its implications for self-determination, quality of life, social inclusion and person-centered planning. You will discover and transition to a positive, supports-based assessment process.
-Specifically, this workshop will help you acquire the basic skills, tools, and techniques needed to understand, communicate, administer, evaluate and interpret the Supports Intensity Scale.
-For program planning purposes, this workshop will lend you fresh perspective on how reliable and practical SIS information can be used to inform service decisions.
-As an orientation to the SIS tool, the workshop will help you learn with best practices advocated and perpetuated by AAIDD, the world’s leading organization for professionals in intellectual disability.
-If you want to become an AAIDD-recognized SIS interviewer, this training is an essential step to becoming an effective SIS interviewer. The training will provide guidance, mentoring, and coaching to aid participants in practicing effective SIS interviews. For professionals conducting SIS assessments for resource allocation purposes or for other such large scale/system-wide endeavors, this workshop is an essential first step before going through an Interviewer Reliability Review with AAIDD Senior Trainers. AAIDD recognizes a SIS Interviewer once he/she has passed an Interviewer Reliability Review with an AAIDD-recognized Trainer. Future opportunities to complete Interviewer Reliability Reviews (IRR) include at a regional training in your area, individual meeting, or another scheduled event. AAIDD will work with interviewers interested in completing IRR on an individual basis.
Who should attend
This training orientation is for anyone interested in becoming a SIS assessment interviewer. These include support coordinators and brokers, social workers, case managers, psychologists, and other professionals working in state/county agencies, private provider groups, independent living facilities, institutions, and group homes.
